Bilder für Mama is an experimental 500-page photo project presenting everyday iPhone photographs, unknowingly gathered over several years and originally taken as personal records or messages shared with family, hence the title, translating as "Pictures for Mum." Inspired by Stephen Shore's American Surfaces, it explores the contemporary snapshot as a form of vernacular photography: spontaneous and free from artistic convention, an exercise in letting go of learned principles and returning to the instinctive image-making of the beginner. Presented at the exact width they appear on a phone screen, the images are removed from their digital context and transformed into a physical document of the early 2020s.
